Undergraduate programs

The Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a First Degree Program is designed to prepare teachers to teach Kindergarten through grade six.

The Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a Second Second Degree Program is designed to prepare teachers to teach Kindergarten through grade six and is intended for students who have completed an appropriate Bachelor’s degree. A French Immersion option is available.

The Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) Second Degree Program, French as a Second Language (FSL) is available for students who have majored in French, and have studied/worked in a French milieu for a period of 8 weeks. Applicants must have passed the DELF B2 with a 70% average and no less than 60% in any one component before being accepted into the program. A number of Education courses in this program option will be conducted in French.

The Bachelor of Education (Intermediate/Secondary) is a second degree program designed to prepare teachers to teach grades 7-12, and is intended for students who have completed an appropriate Bachelor’s degree.

The Bachelor of Education (Intermediate/Secondary) Conjoint with the Diploma in Technology Education is a program designed to prepare both Intermediate/Secondary and Technology Education teachers, and is intended for students who have completed an appropriate Bachelor’s degree. Students will be prepared to teach Technology Education and skilled trades curricula within the Newfoundland and Labrador school system and beyond.

The Bachelor of Music Education as a Second Degree is for students who have already been awarded a Bachelor of Music. This program is designed to prepare music teachers in all facets of school music education: foundations of music education; primary/elementary, intermediate/secondary classroom music; and choral and instrumental music education. 

The Bachelor of Special EducationThe Bachelor of Special Education B.Sped.: The intake for the Fall 2025 semester has been paused as part of the ongoing review of special education offerings. It is not anticipated that future intakes for this Program will occur. The good news? A Master of Education in Inclusive/Special Education is currently in the early stages of development. At this time admission requirements, as well as other details related to graduate programming, have not been determined. Once more information is available it will be shared with prospective students and on the Faculty's website.  If you are a current B.Ed. (Special Education) student, or will be starting in the Fall of 2024, processes are in place to ensure you can finish your degree within the next 3 years.

The Bachelor of Education (Post-Secondary) as a First Degree is designed to prepare students for a variety of instructional and leadership roles in formal and informal post-secondary education, including careers in academic, adult, community, technical and trades, and professional education. Students interested in this degree program will require 2 years of pre-requisite study.

The Bachelor of Education (Post-Secondary) as a Second Degree program prepares students for a variety of instructional and leadership roles in informal and formal post-secondary education, including careers in academic, adult, community, technical and trades, and professional education. This program is available in an online format.

The Diploma in Adult Learning and Post-Secondary Education explores practices, principles, and theories in the field of adult learning and is available in an online format. This diploma program is designed to prepare graduates for instructional and professional roles in adult education settings such as community agencies, not-for-profit organizations, and community development programs.
