Patient Oriented Research
NL SUPPORT
NL SUPPORT is one of many SPOR (Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research) SUPPORT Units across Canada that provide specialized services to researchers, patients, clinicians, policy makers and SPOR-funded entities to conduct patient-oriented research (POR). Broadly, POR is research that directly impacts patients, focuses on patient-identified priorities, and incorporates patients themselves as partners in research.
- NL SUPPORT is available to support any research or evaluation projects working within Newfoundland and Labrador that have a patient-oriented focus.
- Orientation of a research program around patients requires engaging patients as partners in that research.
- Patient is an overarching term inclusive of individuals with personal experience of a health issue and informal caregivers, including family and friends.
- Learn more about how CIHR defines patient-0riented research.
- NL SUPPORT will work with researchers who require assistance in developing their patient/public engagement strategies.
NL SUPPORT offers a variety of services to help build capacity for patient-oriented research in Newfoundland and Labrador. These include: patient/public engagement and knowledge mobilization planning; funding programs for students and health professionals; and free training on topics relevant to patient-oriented research.
