THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Systems, the successful applicant will be responsible for the supervision of electrical personnel, in support of the safe operation and maintenance of all University electrical systems and associated equipment; to ensure the Universities reliable supply of power in meeting the ongoing operational needs across the St. John’s Campus, Signal Hill Campus, and associated sites. Duties include supervising, planning, and coordinating procedures for the operation, maintenance, repair, or construction of electrical systems and associated equipment; managing related work orders; ordering and tracking materials; monitoring of operational, capital, and deferred maintenance budget expenditures; working collaboratively with other groups within Facilities Management as well as various departments to ensure the timely completion of infrastructure projects; assisting with current and future electrical projects to ensure reliable power delivery/meet the evolving operational needs of the University; working collaboratively with health care representatives to ensure that ongoing maintenance, repairs, and operational issues, infrastructure projects, and shutdowns at the Health Sciences Center complex are carried out in a timely and organized manner; ensuring the reliable supply of primary and emergency power to the University and Health Sciences Center complex; identifying needs and assisting in the development and execution of training plans for reporting personnel; collaborating with other supervisors and staff within Facilities Management to ensure effective and timely execution of the department’s work; assisting with the development, implementation, and delivery of scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance programs for electrical systems and associated equipment; assisting with the development of and monitoring the work carried out under the scope of various external service contracts; remaining current on applicable codes and regulations; ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and regulations; contributing to development/implementation and ensuring compliance with health and safety practices and procedures for electrical shop staff and other departmental staff; enhancing the culture of safety and constructive relations within/outside the department; possessing thorough working knowledge of the collective agreement; and performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (minimum 5-7 years) as a Journeyperson Industrial Electrician or as an Electrician with specific experience in industrial electrical work; successful completion of an electrical apprenticeship and/or graduation from a three-year Electrical Engineering Technology program from a recognized post-secondary institution. Possession of valid journeyperson industrial electrician’s certificate, as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, is required. A valid construction electrician certificate supplemented with industrial experience will be considered. The candidate must also have at minimum 3-5 years of relevant supervisory experience (preferably in a unionized environment), as well as experience in the performance of varied design, construction, modification, preventative maintenance, and repair tasks; coupled with strong knowledge and experience with safe work practices and procedures. The ideal candidate should also have experience using computer applications such as MS Office and maintenance management software. Possession of a valid driver’s licence and driver’s abstract, as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, is required.
SALARY $75,534 - $103,001 per annum + 5% Market Differential (Management and Professional)
