ABOUT THE BOTANICAL GARDEN AND JOHNSON GEO CENTRE

Memorial University’s Botanical Garden and Johnson Geo Centre are two of the University’s Academic Support units, as well as community spaces and cultural attractions in St. John’s. The Johnson Geo Centre is a 35,000 square foot science centre and the 100 acre Botanical Garden welcomed just over 77,000 visitors in 2024. Both aim to create exceptional visitor experiences and spark curiosity about all things science and the natural world.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Botanical Garden and the Johnson Geo Centre is looking for a dynamic team player to lead, monitor, support and motivate the Visitor Services Team in providing the best possible experience for visitor. The Visitor Services Supervisor is an important member of the senior staff team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and scheduling visitor services and gift shop staff; answering inquiries; booking room for meetings, art exhibits, and receptions; assisting with program registration/implementation and overseeing season pass programs; greeting and assisting visitors to the Garden and Geo Centre; facilitating gift shop sales and managing inventory control at Garden Gifts and Geo Gifts; and performing other related duties as assigned. Some weekend and evening work is required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (1-3 years) working in a retail environment, including customer service interaction; experience managing and motivating a team; graduation from high school, supplemented by office/business administration or related courses; or equivalent combination of experience and training.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of attention to detail; be self-motivated and able to work under their own initiative, leading by example. Applicants should be proficient using a computer, Microsoft Office suite, and POS systems. Experience in the tourism industry with a love for science and the natural world would be considered an asset.

 

SALARY                                   $49,308 - $57,841 per annum (CUPE 1615)
