13 April: Honours Students Attend APICS Conference

Ten honours students attended the 2010 APICS Psychology Conference in Antigonish, NS. The attendees were Julia Curtis, Kalip Fraser, Marlena Hickey, Karly MacLeod, Brent Mulrooney, Mallory Peacock, Genieve Peckford, Allison Pridham, Heather Quinlan, and Ashley Williams. Mallory Peacock was awarded the Science Communication Award for best presented poster.

Jacqueline Blundell, will present a Department Colloquium entitled: "Extinction and Reconsolidation as Treatment Targets for Acquired Anxiety Disorders" at 4:00 pm in SN 2101.

26 March: First Annual Psychology Departmental Conference

The First Annual Psychology Departmental Conference was held today in the Junior Common Room, Gushue Hall. Current Masters students gave talks in the morning, followed by poster presentations by the undergraduate honours students full ( schedule of events) followed by an awards ceremony.

Dr. Darcy Hallett was awarded the Rennie Gaulton Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in Psychology. This new award honours the commitment to teaching of Rennie Gaulton, who passed away in 2009. The award is presented to a faculty member in the department who, through his/her commitment to teaching, has not only guided students’ learning of the skills and knowledge required in psychology, but has also inspired her/his students to learn more about the discipline.

27 October: Lecture in St. John's on the Ecological Seabird Reserves of Newfoundland and Labrador

On Tuesday, October 27that 7:30 p.m, the Johnson GEO CENTRE will host a public lecture, Seabird Capitals: The Ecological Seabird Reserves of Newfoundland and Labrador by Dr. Bill Montevecchi, Memorial University. The lecture will be held at the Johnson GEO CENTRE, 175 Signal Hill Rd. Free admission. Everyone welcome!

18 September: Ph.D. Oral Defense

Stephanie Hancock, Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Psychology, passed her oral defense of her thesis, Stress and the Development of Disordered Eating in Rats, with distinction.

18 September: Special Department Colloquium

Dr. Cheryl McCormick, Professor and Canada Research Chair in Neuroscience, Brock University, will present a Special Department Colloquium entitled " Adolescence as a 'sensitive period' to the effects of social stressors: Immediate and enduring effects on HPA function and drug-related behaviour in rats" at 3:00 PM in Room 2001 in the Inco Innovation Centre.

10 September: Graduate Student Welcome and Orientation

Welcome and orientation session for graduate students in Psychology and CABE will be on Thursday 10 September from 3:30 to 5:30 PM in SN3101. 3:30-4:00 is for new students; 4:00-4:30 is for all (new and returning) students; and 4:30-5:30 is an informal social hour for all faculty, staff, and graduate students.

9 September: Graduate Student Success

Kristen Williams, a graduate student in the Department of Psychology, has been awarded an Albert George Hatcher Memorial Scholarship. This prestigious scholarship os awarded solely on the basis of exceptional academic merit.
