COORDINATOR, GUEST ACCOMMODATIONS (BAND LEVEL 7)

Student Residences and Ancillary Operations

(One-Year Contractual Position)

DUTIES 

Reporting to the Associate Director, Business Development, the Coordinator will be responsible for providing leadership in planning, facilitating sales, and successfully operating year-round guest accommodations for Student Residences and Ancillary Operations (SRAO). Duties include managing operations on campus by providing support for booked groups from the time of booking until check-out; collaborating with the Associate Director, Business Development, and the Marketing Advisor to develop strategies to support sales and marketing initiatives, as well as conducting market research; developing communications and sales strategies aimed at increasing the promotion and revenue of Guest Accommodations through rate and inventory management on the web portal and promotion via online travel agencies; managing the online reputation of Guest Accommodations by maintaining profiles on travel websites such as NewfoundlandLabrador.com, ConnectOnCampus.ca, Tripadvisor, as well as social media sites, and various sales-related listings; managing contracts and sales agreements, overseeing onsite groups and ensuring a positive guest experience; ensuring guest compliance with university regulations and the unit’s adherence to municipal and provincial legislation, including the Tourist Accommodations Act and the City of St. John's Municipal Taxation Act. The Coordinator will oversee all operational aspects of Guest Accommodations, including hiring, training, providing leadership, and supervising student and part-time staff, as well as working with other SRAO personnel, Facilities Management, and Food Services. The Coordinator will ensure rooms are clean, well maintained and equipped with the necessary amenities for guests and will develop and maintain effective working relationships with various other University departments, provincial government agencies, destination management organizations, professional associations, tourism operators, as well as numerous other internal and external clients. This position requires availability during evenings and weekends on an on-call basis.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Considerable experience (2-3 years) working in tourism or the hospitality industry, including experience training and supervising staff; completion of an undergraduate degree in business administration, marketing, event planning, tourism and/or hospitality management is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered. A strong knowledge of the tourism industry and the market area, with the ability to identify experiential packages and provide creative tourism for specific markets, is essential. Knowledge and skills in website development, online content management systems, social media dashboards, and performance measurement tools for various online purposes are required, as well as a solid understanding of communication, promotion, sales, and marketing principles, practices, and strategies. The ideal candidate will be proficient in word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet applications, as well as email and internet search tools, and have experience using housing or hospitality management software. Strong communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills are essential, along with the ability to organize, prioritize, and work with frequent interruptions. Knowledge of housekeeping, janitorial, maintenance, and facilities management would be an asset.

 

SALARY                             $54,770 - $82,150 per annum (Management and Professional)
