15 August: Ph.D. Oral Defense
Annie Jalbert (supervisor: Dr. Ian Neath) passed her Ph.D. oral defense "with distinction". Congratulations to Annie. Annie will be a post-doctoral student supervised by Dr. Aimée Surprenant in the Fall.
30 May: Ph.D. Oral Defense
Joe Eastwood (supervisor: Dr. Brent Snook) passed his Ph.D. oral defense "with distinction". Congratulations to Joe. Joe will be teaching at Bishop's University in the Fall.
12-13 May: APICS
Eighteen Psychology undergraduate students presented their research at the 35th Atlantic Provinces Council on the Sciences Psychology Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on May 12-13. MUN students won the NSERC Representatives' Undergraduate Awards for best oral presentation (Morag Ryan) and best poster presentation (Danielle Jackson). 1 April: NSERC USRA Success

1 April: Awards
Dr. Sue Walling was awarded the Rennie Gaulton Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in Psychology. This award honours the commitment to teaching of Rennie Gaulton, who passed away in 2009. The award is presented to a faculty member in the department who, through his/her commitment to teaching, has not only guided students’ learning of the skills and knowledge required in psychology, but has also inspired her/his students to learn more about the discipline.
Kellie Lynch was award the first Psychology Society Scholarship Award. This award, created by the Psychology Society, is given to an undergraduate Psychology or Behavioural Neuroscience major who is beyond the second year of study and is based on academic achievement, involvement with the Psychology Department and University, and involvement with the community.
1 April: 2nd Annual Psychology Research Day
The 2nd Annual Psychology Research Day is Friday, April 1 from 9:00 to 3:15. It is being held in the Junior Commons Room, Gushue Hall. The schedule of events can be found here.

Dr. Christopher Cordova, Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland will be giving a colloquium entitled: "Reward, aversion and uncertainty: roles of lateral hypothalamus and chlolinergic neurons in attention" next Wednesday, September 29 at 4:00 pm in SN 2101.
17 September: Psychology Department Colloquium
Diano-Fabio Marrone, a behavioural neuroscientist from Wilfrid Laurier University will give a talk at 3:30 PM on Friday 17 September in HSC Lecture Theatre B. The title is "Immediate-early gene expression and the physiology of learning and memory".
