HSS Priorities for Support

Each year, friends and graduates of Memorial University help fund teaching and learning initiatives, research, career development and experiential learning, scholarships, bursaries and awards.

HSS has identified significant areas of need that require additional resources to allow for the continued growth of the faculty in the coming years. Every gift – large or small – will help create an opportunity for a student and allow the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to maintain its commitment to excellence.

Students

In HSS, our students remain our top priority.

We know our students are the reason we exist. Our first priority is to ensure that they have the physical facilities, financial and experiential resources available that will allow them to achieve their full potential.

Scholarships & Awards

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offers a variety of awards, scholarships and bursaries to its students, many of whom rely on these to begin or continue their studies.

Scholarships recognize the achievements of a student in an academic field.
Bursaries ensure that students who are in financial need can gain access to higher education and training.
Awards can recognize student attributes such as community service, leadership, or other special criteria.
Fellowships allow for the funding of graduate degree programs and ensure students can continue to pursue their cutting-edge research.

Named scholarships and awards can be created by single or multiple donations from an individual, groups or people wishing to support a shared cause. Named awards are often created to honour the memory of a friend or family member and are usually supported by friends, family and colleagues. Once the award is established, future contributions can increase the size or number of awards that are offered.

Programs & Student Experiences

When you give to program enrichment, you are making a significant difference in the lives of our students. Donations to program enrichment ensure that our students are able to participate in travel experiences and gain valuable insights into new research areas while lessening their financial burdens.

Research

We take pride in the research being conducted within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. With your support, we will be able to continue to undertake research that has tangible benefits for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and citizens around the world.

Undergraduate Research Scholarships
Our undergraduate students are a group of remarkable individuals with a zest for creativity and a passion for discovery. We are committed to fostering a community of student researchers who will undertake important knowledge development projects in a highly ethical manner.

Graduate Research Fellowships
The need for fellowships has never been higher as we continue to bring in top students from around the world. Fellowships support our graduate students in their efforts to produce research. Graduate students also provide invaluable assistance in course delivery and teaching activities. The ability to offer financial assistance to our graduate students enables us to create the next generation of scientists, instructors and scholars.
