Coverage for Travelling Employees and Retirees
The Department of Human Resources wishes to remind employees and retirees who are travelling outside their province of residence that their health insurance benefits also include a comprehensive program of travel health insurance. While the supplementary health and dental benefits are supplied by Medavie Blue Cross, the travel health insurance plan is provided by SSQ Insurance Company.
The travel plan covers a wide range of emergency services which may be required as a result of an accident or unexpected illness which occurs while travelling outside your province of residence, while on business or vacation. The travel health insurance plan does not exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions for active employee travel; however, there is a pre-existing condition exclusion applicable to retiree travel.
Please refer to the Travel Brochure for additional details. If you have a pre-existing medical condition and wish to discuss coverage with a SSQ Insurance Company representative, please call toll free 1-800-848-0158.
Similarly, if you are travelling to a country which might be considered high risk for safety, security or health reasons, please contact the Benefits and Pensions Office at 864-7406 prior to travel so that your coverage may be confirmed with the respective insurance companies.
Please refer to the SSQ Travel Health information section of the Group Insurance page for important updates and notices.
For more information on the travel plan, including coverage and how to claim benefits, please refer to the website or contact MyHR by email or call 864-2434.
