THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Director, Operations and Maintenance, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operations and maintenance of electrical systems for multiple facilities inclusive of high (where applicable), medium, and low voltage components and electrical power generation systems (>13MW capacity in total).
This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of maintenance programs for electrical systems; managing the electrical workforce through effective team building and communications while adhering to University policies, procedures, and collective agreements; managing budgets for electrical system operations and projects; ensuring application of evolving code and regulatory requirements; development of near, medium, and long term planning of electrical systems and resources for evolving requirements of the University community and strategic goals; providing technical leadership on existing and planned systems elements in support of modifications and upgrades to infrastructure arising from within Facilities Management and the broader University as well as utility providers, consultants, and government agencies/representatives; planning; executing and overseeing projects for electrical systems upgrades, expansion, and replacement; reviewing project design documents pertaining to electrical systems to verify compliance with University standards; developing and overseeing various contracts with outside vendors in provision of goods and services to the University; participating in the overall management of the operations and maintenance team in pursuit of University and departmental strategic goals and continuous improvement objectives; and performing other related duties as required.
THE CANDIDATE
Experience (5-8 years) in specialized facilities management support services with senior technical knowledge in electrical distribution systems (design, operations, and maintenance); completion of an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. The successful applicant will have excellent problem solving, analytical, planning, and organizational abilities as well as exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador is required. Project management certification or experience is an asset.
