Bob Adamec Neuroscience Award. In 2014 the department was deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Dr. Bob Adamec, a long-standing member of the neuroscience area. This memorial award will be given to the honours student presenting the best poster in the area of neuroscience. This year's winner is Emma Nolan.

Psychology Society Award. This award is given to a Psychology student based on academic merit, as well as involvement with the Psychology Department and the community. This year's winner is Lucas Walters.

Best Poster. This award is presented to the student who gave the best poster presentation at the Psychology Research Day. The winners are decided by an evaluation group made up of faculty in the Psychology Department. The Best Poster was awarded to Liam Foley.

General Rick Hillier Scholarship in Science and Leadership (2012-2013)

The scholarship is awarded to a student in any year of any undergraduate program in the Faculty of Science. Preference is given to students who demonstrate leadership in their activities, either on or off-campus, and students who have graduated from a high school in rural Newfoundland and Labrador. When possible, preference is also be given to students who are members of military families, or who are past or present members of the military. The winner this year is Desmond Whalen.

Department Awards presented at Psychology Research Day (April 1, 2011)

Bill McKim Honors Thesis Award. This award is presented to the student who has submitted the best honours thesis. Factors that are considered include experimental design, analysis, theoretical impact and writing style and clarity. This year's winner is Aishah Bakhtiar

Psychology Society Scholarship. The scholarship, valued at approximately $600, is given to a Psychology student based on academic merit, as well as involvement with the Psychology Department and the community. This year's winner is Kellie Lynch.

Best Poster. These awards are presented to the students who give the best spoken and best poster presentation at the Psychology Research Day. The winners are decided by an evaluation group made up of faculty in the Psychology Department. The Best Poster was awarded to Victoria Linehan.

2009 - 2010 Academic Year

Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) (March 2010)

Jillian Bishop was the recipient of a $1000 one-time bursary from CFUW.

Convocation Awards (May 2009)

Kathy Keating, the University Medal for Academic Excellence in Psychology

Rebecca L. Lethbridge won the University Medal for Academic Excellence in Behavioural Neuroscience

Peter Smith won the Dr. James L. Walker Convocation Award, given to a psychology Honours student who has demonstrated both academic excellence and leadership within their community

APICS Conference, May 2009

Rebecca L. Lethbridge, an honours student with Carolyn Harley and Sue Walling, received a $100 award in recognition of a presentation that best exemplifies excellence in basic research. Her poster was entitled, "Intrahippocampal Infusion of the β–Adrenoreceptor Agonist Isoproterenol Potentiates the Perforant Path-Evoked Population Spike in the Dentate Gyrus of Urethane-Anesthetized Rats".

Third Annual Science Symposium (MUN, August 2009)

Ten psychology honours students participated in this Symposium. Kate Murphy (supervised by Darlene Skinner) was one of the five prize winners; Susan Flynn (supervised by Carole Peterson), Lindsey Boland (supervised by Ken Fowler) and Leslie Ann Stapleton (supervised by Carolyn Walsh) received honourable mentions. Leslie Ann Stapleton was also the WISE Choice.

Faculty of Science Student Awards (October 2009)

Rebecca Lethbridge (Biochemistry/BHNR) and Stephanie Smith (Psychology) received the Lou Visentin Award, which recognizes the outstanding achievement of graduating students who have been named to the Dean's List for four consecutive years. This award is the highest award for undergraduate academic achievement in the Faculty of Science and was awarded to 25 students in the 2008-2009 academic year.

Keelia Farrell (Biology/BHNR) and Kathleen House (Psychology) received the Dean of Science Book Award, which is awarded annually to a student in each department in the Faculty of Science on the recommendation of the Head of the Department. The student must have demonstrated academic excellence in his/her declared major and completed at least six semesters with a minimum of ninety credit hours.
