Student advising
The advising process is an essential part of the first-year student experience. Your role in this process should be guided by what you find comfortable and what your advisees require.
Some students may wish to touch base with you after every class; others may feel they do not want or need your help and may not approach you.
Establishing contact with all your advisees is important. Advisees should receive the information and the assistance they need to help them define and achieve their academic goals. Students experiencing academic difficulties may benefit if their advisor is aware of the problems, academic and otherwise, which led them to seek advice.
For more information on the process, consult the Faculty Advising Handbook or if you have specific questions, contact the Academic Advising Centre.
