Four scholarships available to students majoring in psychology or behavioural neuroscience
The Memorial University Undergraduate Psychology and Behavioural Neuroscience Society is pleased to announce four scholarships available to students majoring in psychology or behavioural neuroscience.
To apply, students must submit a PDF application package to psychdeputyhead@mun.ca with the subject line “Award Application:” followed by the name of the specific award being applied for. Students who intend to to apply for multiple awards must submit a separate PDF application package for each award. Selection will be determined by the departmental awards committee. Please see below for award descriptions and required documents to include in the application package. The deadline for applications is March 26th 2021 at 5:00pm. Late applications will not be considered. Please note only successful applicants will be notified of the award decision. MUN Psychology and Behavioural Neuroscience Society Research Beginnings Award: One award valued at $500
This award is to be presented to an undergraduate student beyond their first year of study majoring in psychology or behavioural neuroscience. The recipient of this award will demonstrate intellectual curiosity, commitment to volunteer or paid research endeavors, presentation of research results, scholarly publishing, and/or dissemination of research within the community. Applicants are required to submit 1) a cover letter to indicate the award they are applying for and current year of study, 2) a 500-word statement demonstrating what they have learned throughout their degree to further their research skills and why they would be an ideal candidate for the award, and 3) an up-to-date CV.
MUN Psychology and Behavioural Neuroscience Society Community Involvement Award: One award valued at $500
This award is to be presented to an undergraduate student beyond their first year of study majoring in psychology or behavioural neuroscience. The recipient of this award will demonstrate a commitment to service in the community. Such service refers to volunteer or job-related involvement in social services and/or involvement with community-focused organizations. Applicants are required to submit 1) a cover letter to indicate the award they are applying for and current year of study, 2) a 500-word statement about their community involvement, what they have learned throughout their degree that has led them to be more involved in the and community and why they would be an ideal candidate for the award, and 3) an up-to-date CV.
MUN Psychology and Behavioural Neuroscience Society 2020/2021 Resiliency Award: One award valued at $500
This award is to be presented to an undergraduate such beyond their first year of study majoring in psychology or behavioural neuroscience. This past year has brought forth unimaginable changes in how we live, learn, and connect with one another. The recipient of this award will have demonstrated resiliency in the face of adversity, an initiative to learn, and the use of creativity in seeking out ways to reach their goals. Applicants are required to submit 1) a cover letter to indicate the award they are applying for and current year of study, 2) a 500-word statement regarding new challenges in the past year that they have faced and have required innovation to overcome, how they have grown as a person throughout their degree and why they would be a ideal candidate for this award, last 3) an up-to-date CV.
MUN Psychology Society Award (PSSA): One award valued at approx. $1000
The Psychology Society Award (PSSA) has been established by the students of the Psychology Society to encourage and support their fellow students. This award will be given to an undergraduate student majoring in psychology or behavioural neuroscience who is beyond their second year of study. The recipient of this award will have demonstrated significant contributions to the internal or external Psychology or Behavioural Neuroscience community. It will be awarded by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards on the recommendation of the Head, Department of Psychology. Applicants are required to submit 1) a cover letter to indicate the award they are applying for and current year of study, 2) a 500-word statement regarding why they are deserving of this award including all relevant academic achievements, involvement in Psychology or Behavioural Neuroscience related endeavors at and/or outside of Memorial University, and 3) an up-to-date CV. These documents should be submitted in a single pdf file.
