Session III of Improvising spaces features a performance and discussion with Dora Award nominated performer and Memorial University dancer-in-residence Karen Kaeja and her team of local musical and dance collaborators which will include pianist Florian Hoefner, guitarist Marijn Companjen, vocalist Chris Tonelli, and dancers Colleen Quigley, Andrea Tucker, Calla Lachance, Ryan Davis, Sarah Joy Stoker, Corie Harnett, and Louise Moyes. Both the performance and discussion will deal with the role of touch, memory, and solitude in the creation of improvised dance and will reflect back on the process of collaboration the musicians and dancers will have engaged in in the weeks prior to the event.

KAREN KAEJA: Karen Kaeja is co-artistic director of Kaeja d'Dance with Allen Kaeja and is celebrated as "one of this country's top ten dance artists, most watchable performers and a champion of contact dance" (NOW Magazine). She is a Dora Award nominee and received the CDA "I Love Dance" Award for her vision of Porch View Dances and the Paul D. Fleck Fellowship for Innovation and Excellence, among others. A passionate performer for over 80 stage works and 20 dance films, she is a choreographer and project instigator who is recognized with commissions and performance presentations of international acclaim. A sought after educator at conferences, festivals, and universities, she embraces community and audience inclusive ideology.
