Professionalism Expectations
Professionalism Expectations of Undergraduate Medical Learners
Learners are expected to display professionalism at all times in interactions with each other, with patients, and their families/significant others, staff, and with members of the public. The following attributes of professionalism apply to undergraduate medical learners and form the basis of a social contract between a physician and society; they are outlined in detail in the Statement of Professional Attributes:
- Respect for others
- Honesty and integrity
- Compassion and Empathy
- Responsibility and Duty
Learners shall also abide by the codes of conducts and policies regarding a respectful learning environment and workplace listed on the Professionalism and Mistreatment page.
All learners are on the Education Register of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland & Labrador (CPSNL or the College). Therefore they need to understand the roles and responsibilities outlined in their Standard of Practice: Professional Responsibilities in Medical Education document.
