Becoming Involved!
Be a clinical preceptor
Our students appreciate the time that hard-working family physicians devote to providing them with opportunities to develop their clinical diagnostic and management skills. With a larger medical school class and lots of interest from non-Memorial medical learners to experience all that we have to offer, we welcome your expression of interest to become involved in medical education. All of our teachers must have a faculty appointment for accreditation purposes, but our friendly staff will guide you through this very easy process.
Benefits of a University Appointment include: a professionalism standard for faculty and learners; your evaluations are official; potential software discounts; preceptors can be remunerated for some teaching; use of University libraries and sports facilities; Faculty Development; study credits from the College of Family Physicians of Canada and potential representation on Faculty Committees.
You may also want to teach for the fun of it, to give back, for the love of teaching and/or, for recruitment and retention.
Why family medicine?
Family medicine is a dynamic and exciting field of medicine which offers physicians the opportunity to practice in every region of the world and choose to maintain a broad scope of practice or to focus on an area of special interest. Family doctors provide care to all ages, cultures, socioeconomic groups in a variety of settings from clinics to labour and delivery wards to nursing homes to emergency rooms to the patient’s own home, in addition to participating in advocacy, research and leadership roles. Talk to a family doctor (or many!) about the joys of being a family doctor.
