Discipline Awards
In the Discipline of Family Medicine, we celebrate excellence through a variety of awards recognizing outstanding contributions in teaching, research, humanities and more. These honors highlight the achievements of our faculty, residents, and colleagues. Dr. Craig Loveys Award
This award is given to a full or part-time specialist faculty member in recognition of contribution to the Discipline of Family Medicine.
2022-2023 Dr. Joshua Gould
Dr. George Hurley Award
This award is presented to a non-physician or cross-appointed teacher in recognition of significant teaching contribution to Family Medicine residents.
2022-2023 Susan White
Dr. Gus Rowe Teaching Award
The award is presented to a full-time faculty member or Stream Lead of the Discipline of Family Medicine, in recognition of being an exemplary physician, a laudable teacher who is able to communicate knowledge and skills with sensitivity and humour, and one who has an interest in sharing those aspects of their skills and ideals which are particularly pertinent to being a good family doctor.
2022-2023 Dr. Joel Koops
Dr. John Ross Award
This award is presented annually to a full-time resident in Family Medicine or Enhanced Skills, or to a Nurse Practitioner in the Nurse Practitioner Program at Memorial University who shows a genuine interest to practice in an underserved population.
2022-2023 Dr. Elise Thorburn
Recipient of the Dr. Yong Kee Jeon Award
This award is presented to a part-time Family Physician who has an appointment with the Discipline of Family Medicine in recognition of contribution to the Discipline of Family Medicine.
2022-2023 Dr. Amy Pieroway
Recipient of the Enid & Roy Williams Award
This award is presented annually to a resident in Memorial’s Family Medicine residency training program who has a professional demeanor and genuine passion for care of the elderly. In the instance that there is no suitable candidate from the Family Medicine residency program, the scholarship may be given to a student in Memorial’s Nurse Practitioner program.
2022-2023 Dr. Megan Snow
Recipient of the Family Medicine Humanities Award (The Dr. Bill Eaton Award)
This award is presented to a full or part-time Family Physician with an appointment in the Discipline of Family Medicine. The recipient is to have an impact on humanities in medicine that goes beyond the region. They must support and raise the profile of humanities in medicine. The recipient is also recognized for their impact on touching the lives of patients, learners, faculty and staff in a positive manner.

Recipient of the Walter & Mildred Miller Award
This award is presented annually to a Family Medicine resident who exemplifies the qualities of both mentor and teacher in family practice.

Recipient of the Thomas Gleason Award
This award is presented to a resident for social accountability in research.
2022-2023 Dr. Ryley Pumphrey
Recipient of the Resident’s Choice Award
This award is presented to a resident annually at the Resident Research Forum.

Recipient of the Resident Research Award for Best Oral Presentation
This award is presented to a resident for the best oral presentation at the annual Resident Research Forum.
