Regehr Releases App
“eMusic Bach”, a brand new electronic sheet music edition of the first Bach suite for solo cello is now available in the iTunes store free of charge. This great work is one of the most beloved pieces of classical music, and is one of the first pieces aspiring cellists wish to learn. It’s also well recognized because of numerous advertisement campaigns including American Express and Infiniti.
Created by Memorial University’s School of Music cello professor, Vernon Regehr, the App is designed for use as a teaching and performing tool, enabling the user to interact with the musical score in new and interesting ways. The content of the App is accessed by selecting menu items that highlight different components of Bach’s writing. Through the use of coloured noteheads and multiple staves, or musical lines, the App gives a thorough theoretical analysis that includes harmonic progressions , compositional structure and a composed accompanying bass line.
Working in close collaboration with Sebastiano Bisciglia, music theorist and IT specialist from Indiana University’s Jacob’s School of Music, as well as St. John’s graphic and App designers Glen Collins and Jamie Chang, the App is visually compelling and easy to navigate.
