Presenting Dr. Mark Finch
Dr. Mark Finch has successfully defended his PhD dissertation in the Ethnomusicology graduate program at Memorial University. “Bluegrass In and Around Toronto: Urban Scenes, Regional Imaginaries, and Divergent Trajectories” traces the growth of a distinctively Canadian bluegrass scene in Toronto between 1955 and 1985.
In addition to being a major contribution to historical ethnomusicology, Dr. Finch’s research contributes to our understanding of how musical scenes develop in urban and transregional contexts. His supervisor is renowned bluegrass scholar and MUN professor emeritus Dr. Neil Rosenberg, and the external examiner was Dr. Lee Bidgood of East Tennessee State University.
