NSO Orchestral Chairs for String Applicants
A Special Opportunity for String Applicants
Applicants whose principal instrument is violin, viola, or cello may be considered for a paid position with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra at the time of their audition for the School of Music.
The Opportunity
The Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra Orchestral Chairs Program offers the opportunity for advanced student musicians engaged in professional study to compete for paid positions in the NSO.
Holders of NSO Orchestral Chairs receive:
- A $1500 honorarium.
- Performance experience as members of the section for the Masterworks concerts and NSO Big Ticket fundraiser.
- The opportunity to learn by playing alongside experienced NSO musicians.
- The opportunity to perform with world-class soloists.
- A spot on the NSO sub list for possible additional NSO concerts (Sinfonia and Pops), paid at the full NSO fee-per-service rate.
How to Apply
Interested violin, viola, and cello applicants (Bachelor of Music or Master of Music) will be asked to include a selection of orchestral excerpts selected by NSO principal string players in their School of Music audition. Excerpts will be available from the School in early October.
Excerpts will be evaluated by the principal string players and Music Director of the NSO.
