Expenses and Funding
You will be surprised at how affordable the graduate programs in Ethnomusicology are. We offer a combination of low costs and generous graduate student funding. The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) has compiled a handy summary of minimum expenses for graduate students. SGS also offers a generous program of baseline fellowships for students in the Ethnomusicology degrees. Eligible students admitted to the program will receive fellowship support sufficient to cover full tuition plus a stipend. Ethnomusicology students are also eligible to compete for prestigious fellowships that are open to graduate students across the university.
Graduate research assistantships are available in conjunction with individual faculty research, and with projects of the MMaP Research Centre and the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation, A limited number of graduate teaching assistantships are also available.
Ethnomusicology students are eligible for consideration within the university-wide competition for the School of Graduate Studies F.A. Aldrich Fellowships.
Students are encouraged to apply for external funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (www.sshrc.ca).
Ethnomusicology students may apply for funding to present at conferences through the ICTM Legacy Fund administered by the School of Music.
For fieldwork expenses, Ethnomusicology students may apply to the School of Music for the Ethnomusicology Fieldwork Scholarship, and they may be eligible to apply to the Institute for Social and Economic Research, or the Smallwood Foundation.
