Research Statement

I am interested in producing narratives of livelihood at various moments of adaptation and change in food use related to climate change. My research project will focus on tracing records of environmental change in Newfoundland from human occupation to the present at a specific site, and mapping those findings onto significant changes in human food procurement to note and rethink connections and disparities. Throughout my program, I hope to better understand how past occurrences of change in foodways are understood and reflected in our present. Further, I wish to use this data to help shape decisions that will impact the ever-tumultuous future. Drawing on political and food ontology, my research will answer how the context of climate change has impacted coastal communities through adaptations in food procurement and will help guide sustainable solutions while navigating various environmental changes in Newfoundland.
