Research Statement
My MA research will be a comparative lithic analysis of Dorset and Groswater microblades between Saint Pierre and Miquelon and Newfoundland. Through fieldwork in Saint Pierre and Miquelon and research of previous excavations in Newfoundland, I will examine the techniques and raw materials used in microblade production between the islands. As raw materials differ in knapping workability and were often sourced from distinct quarry areas on the islands, it is possible to trace their origin to identify if materials were being transferred between the islands. Through examining microblade production techniques and various flake debitage from sites, it is also possible to examine if microblades were manufactured before or after transportation as well. This research will help to better understand the transportation of raw materials between the islands and perhaps the movement of Dorset of Groswater cultures throughout Saint Pierre and Miquelon and Newfoundland.
