Research Statement
My research focuses on the labor of enslaved Afro-descended people in the development of the Newfoundland and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon fisheries from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries. Using a postcolonial framework and drawing on archival research, primary and secondary sources, and public outreach, this research reexamines the role of the African diaspora in fishery spaces to draw attention to the realities of enslavement and those accounts often silenced by dominant historical narratives.
