Grade 4: Geo Detectives VR

Available in English and French

Curriculum Connection:
Unit 1: Rocks, Minerals, and Erosion

Virtual Field Trip Description:
Students will learn about the three rock types, how geologists identify minerals, how minerals are used, and how weathering and erosion shape our landscapes. They will use their investigative skills to identify a rock they collect based on the characteristics of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. They will play along with our online game to perform various tests on a set of minerals and then, based on the results, will determine the identity of the “mystery mineral.” They will discover materials in our homes that come from the Earth and think about their own impact on this planet we call home. Then they will have the chance to watch weathering and erosion in real time, and see how these forces can drastically change our landscape.
