Science of the Arts: Strong Harbour Strings Collective

Join the Strong Harbour Strings Collective as we journey through space! The linking theme in this concert is the Voyager spacecraft program, launched by NASA in 1977. These interplanetary space probes, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 were launched to gather information about the solar system and, on completion of that mission, to gradually travel outside of the solar system into interstellar space. Each craft carried a golden phonograph record which acts as a time capsule for humanity as a whole; this record contains visual imagery, scientific data, sounds, and music. The SHSC will perform music from these golden records and inspired by the solar eclipse that happened this past April, including works by Bach, Holst, Golijov, Beethoven, and many more.
Strong Harbour Strings Collective is an independent non-profit offering equal access to music education and performance to the children of Buckmaster's Circle and surrounding neighbourhoods.
This performance will have two 45-minute halves with a short intermission. Tickets $30. There will be a cash bar and popcorn available.
This performance is one of the events in the Geo Centre's The Science of the Arts Series. 2024 was named the Year of the Arts in our province, and to celebrate we've put together this exciting event series that will explore the relationship between Arts and Sciences. Are these two worlds as different as they sometimes appear? Join us as guests of all backgrounds give their take on this interesting intersection.
