Dr. Leonard M. Lye
Dr. Leonard M. Lye holds a first-class honours degree in civil engineering and a PhD specializing in the areas of statistical hydrology and environmental statistics. Dr. Lye started at Memorial University in 1988 and retired in December 2018. He received the designation of Professor Emeritus in October 2019.
During his time at Memorial, he served as the Discipline Chair of Civil Engineering for three terms as well as three terms as the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. In addition to administrative duties, he has graduated over 35 Masters and PhD students and has published over 170 publications. Dr. Lye has served as a consultant to several major private companies and government organizations. Dr. Lye was the winner of the President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2003 and winner of the President’s Award for Exceptional Community Service in 2014. He was also the winner of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland Awards for Teaching in 2001, Community Service in 2014, and Service in 2016. He is also a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, Engineer’s Canada, Engineering Institute of Canada, and Canadian Academy of Engineering.
