General admission requirements

Credential

Zimbabwe General Certificate of Education at Ordinary Level (O-level) and Zimbabwe General Certificate of Education at Advanced Level (A-level)

Required subject areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics1
  3. Laboratory Science1,2 (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language1
  5. Elective

1Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.

2Combined Science is not acceptable to meet the laboratory science requirement.

General admission criteria

Grade requirement
  • Completion of the Zimbabwe General Certificate of Education (GCE) with a minimum grade of C in the required subject areas and at least two Advanced (“A”) Level subjects with minimum grade of C.
English language proficiency
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

Additional notes

Applied Advanced Level subjects are not an ideal preparation for our programs. General Paper, General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills, and Key Skills subjects are not acceptable.

Completion of A Level subject examinations with minimum scores may qualify accepted applicants for course-based transfer credit. Refer to our transfer credit process for further details.

When you apply (early acceptance)
  • If A level results are not yet available, a provisional decision may be possible using the final O-level certificate and predicted grades for the A-levels or the provisional results slip of the A-levels. Documents can be official or unofficial.
  • Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See general admission criteria section above.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
