Credential

WAEC Senior Secondary Certificate or NECO Senior School Certificate

Required subject areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics1
  3. Laboratory Science1,2 (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Economics, Geography, History, Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language1
  5. Elective

1Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.

2Integrated Science is not acceptable to meet the laboratory science requirement.

General admission criteria

Grade requirement
  • Minimum grade of C6 in the required subject areas.
English language proficiency
  • An admission average equivalent to B3 (3.0) or better in the five required subject areas outlined above will meet the English language requirement. Prospective students can approximate their admission average by adding the numeric portion of the best grade in each required subject area and dividing the sum by 5. The official admission average will be calculated by an admissions officer when the application is reviewed. Applicants with an admission average greater than 3.0 will be required to demonstrate English language proficiency through a standardized test.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

When you apply (early acceptance)
  • Current, interim high school transcript uploaded to the admissions portal or sent by email.
  • Official English proficiency test result (if required). See general admission criteria section above.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
When you complete your examinations (verified acceptance)

If you have completed WAEC/NECO examinations

  • Scan of your official WAEC/NECO Certificate and scratch card verification details uploaded to the admissions portal or sent by email. If your official Certificate has not yet been issued, an official Confirmation of Result must be sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar directly from WAEC or NECO.
  • Official English proficiency test result (if required). See general admission criteria section above.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
