General admission requirements
Credential
National Senior Certificate
Required subject areas
- English
- Mathematics1,2
- Laboratory Science1 (Life Sciences or Physical Sciences)
- Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language1
- Elective
- Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.
- Mathematical Literacy is not acceptable to meet this requirement.
General admission criteria
Grade requirement
- Minimum average of 5 or 60 in the required subject areas, with a passing grade in each subject.
English language proficiency
- Additional proof of English proficiency beyond completion of the National Senior Certificate is normally not required. Refer to our English language requirements for further details.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
- Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

When you apply (early acceptance)
- Current interim transcript. Document can be official or unofficial.
- Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See general admission criteria above.
- Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
When you complete your examinations (verified acceptance)
- Certified copy of your official final National Senior Certificate sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
If you have completed high school and not attended a post-secondary institution
- Certified copy of your official final National Senior Certificate sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
- Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See general admission criteria above.
- Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
If you have attended a post-secondary institution
- You are required to apply as a transfer student. In addition to the information provided above, please refer to our university or college transfer applicant requirements.
