National Senior Certificate

Required subject areas

1. English
2. Mathematics^1,2
3. Laboratory Science¹ (Life Sciences or Physical Sciences)
4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language¹
5. Elective

1. Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.
   
   
2. Mathematical Literacy is not acceptable to meet this requirement.

General admission criteria

Grade requirement

• Minimum average of 5 or 60 in the required subject areas, with a passing grade in each subject.

English language proficiency

• Additional proof of English proficiency beyond completion of the National Senior Certificate is normally not required. Refer to our English language requirements for further details.

Competitive program entry (if applicable)

• Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

If you are currently in high school

When you apply (early acceptance)

• Current interim transcript. Document can be official or unofficial.
• Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See general admission criteria above.
• Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.

When you complete your examinations (verified acceptance)

• Certified copy of your official final National Senior Certificate sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.

If you have completed high school and not attended a post-secondary institution

• Certified copy of your official final National Senior Certificate sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
• Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See general admission criteria above.
• Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.

If you have attended a post-secondary institution

• You are required to apply as a transfer student. In addition to the information provided above, please refer to our university or college transfer applicant requirements.
