General admission requirements

Credential

Caribbean Secondary Examinations Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) or Caribbean Secondary Examinations Certificate (CSEC) and at least one year of study at a recognized Junior College, College or University.

Required subject areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics1
  3. Laboratory Science1,2 (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language1
  5. Elective

1Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.

2Combined Science is not acceptable to meet the laboratory science requirement.

General admission criteria

Grade requirement
  • Applicants are required to hold a Caribbean Examinations Council Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) with a minimum grade of 2 in the required subject areas; and a minimum of two 2-unit subjects on the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) or successful completion of at least one year of study at a recognized Junior College, College or University. Exceptional students may be considered based on their CSEC results.
English language proficiency
  • Proof of English language proficiency beyond diploma completion is normally not required. Refer to our English language requirements for further details.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

Additional notes

Completion of CAPE subject examinations with minimum scores may qualify accepted applicants for course-based transfer credit.

  • Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See general admission criteria section above.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
