General admission requirements

To be eligible for general undergraduate admission, you will need to successfully complete Grade 12 with senior level high school courses in the following five subject areas:

  • Geology/Géologie 12
  • Physics/Physique 12
One of the following at the Standard or Higher level:
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language (MCL)* Full credit in one of the following at the academic or advanced level:
  • Droit 12
  • Economics/Économie 12
  • Études religieuses 12
  • Géographie planétaire 12
  • Geomatics 12
  • Global Geography 12
  • Global History 12
  • Global Politics 12
  • Histoire planétaire 12
  • Law 12
  • Philosophie 12

One of the following at the Standard or Higher level:

5. Elective Full credit in one additional subject at the 12 level Any subject area (Standard or Higher level)

You will need an overall average of at least 70% in the five Grade 12 courses that are used to fulfil the subject area requirements listed above, and a passing grade in each subject. If more than one course satisfies a subject area, the course with the highest grade is used to determine your admission average.

*Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general undergraduate admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca for further information.

Applicants who have completed certain International Baccalaureate (IB) or Advanced Placement (AP) courses may be eligible for transfer credit.

Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

When you apply (early acceptance)
  • Interim (unofficial) transcript showing current course registrations should be uploaded to the admissions portal along with your application or e-mailed as soon as it is available. These are needed to evaluate early admission eligibility. Ensure your transcipt includes grades 10 through 12.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.

English language proficiency

If you have not attended an English medium high school in Canada for at least three years, you may be required to provide further proof of English language proficiency.

 

Submitting your documents

Applicants are encouraged to submit all available official documents before their assigned registration time to assist with course registration and the verified acceptance decision.

All required official documents must be submitted by the document deadline. Official documents must be received by mail directly from the issuing school/institution in a sealed envelope, unless the issuing school/institution has been pre-authorized for e-mail submission.
