At the Ocean Sciences Centre, we offer a wide range of specialized Laboratory (Workshop) Services and Field Services designed to support marine research, aquaculture, and environmental studies. Laboratory (Workshop) Services

Our Laboratory Services unit provides expert advice and comprehensive solutions for designing and constructing aquatic systems used in marine research. Drawing on years of experience in operating and developing animal holding facilities for research purposes, we offer practical, informed, and innovative services tailored to meet the needs of your specific research or project.

Services Include:

• Conceptual Design, Feasibility, and Budgeting: We help bring your aquatic system projects to life, from initial concepts to detailed plans and budgeting.
• Complete Design and Documentation: We provide full design services for aquatic systems, life support systems, husbandry areas, artificial environments, and specialized aquarium lighting.
• Construction Services: We offer design and construction services, ensuring that all systems meet your research requirements.
• Design Checks and Reviews: Our team ensures that all designs are up to standard through thorough checks and reviews.
• System Testing: We ensure your systems are operational and efficient through comprehensive testing and quality assurance.

Field Services

Our Field Services Unit (FSU) provides essential support for field-based marine research. We maintain and operate a variety of equipment and vehicles to facilitate cold-water diving, sample collection, and live specimen transport.

Services Include:

• Scuba Gear and Diving: Cold-water diving equipment for year-round research.
• Sampling Equipment: Benthic trawls, seines, plankton nets, Niskin bottles, CTD, and underwater video cameras for comprehensive marine sampling.
• Marine Transport:
  • Zodiac and Boston Whaler Boats: Ideal for near-shore or shallow water work in both sea and freshwater environments.
  • 5-Ton Multipurpose Vehicle: Equipped with aeration and recirculating seawater holding two 2000L tanks for transporting live specimens over long distances.
