Applying - Current or Returning Students

Applications are now open for the following semester: 

Spring 2025 Semester:

  • Signal Hill Campus is accepting new applications, starting Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
  • Burton's Pond Apartments, Macpherson College and Paton College are not accepting new applications.

 

Fall 2025 Semester:

 

  • Macpherson College, Paton College, and Burton's Pond Apartments (individuals only) are accepting new applications.

 

Note:

  • Burton's Pond Family Applications are currently closed, due to the high volume of applicants on the waitlist.
Information regarding the 2025 academic year

In August, Memorial University will serve as the Games Village for the 2025 Canada Games, welcoming over 5,000 athletes, coaches, and managers. In preparation, we are taking this opportunity to conduct maintenance across all residences and surrounding grounds. These enhancements will improve our facilities for years to come, ensuring a better living experience for our students. 

There are important reminders regarding the 2025 academic year:  

  • Residence applications are closed for the spring/summer semester. 
  • All students with existing semesterly contracts living in Paton College, Macpherson College, and Guy and Gilbert Courts must move out by the end of the contract date (by April 23, 2025) to allow Memorial to complete required repairs and maintenance.  
  • Students such as those enrolled in Marine Institute and other technical sessions, may stay on campus until June 30, 2025. 
  • If your academic program requires you to be on campus during the spring/summer semester and you are facing housing challenges, we encourage you to reach out to housing@mun.ca for personalized support. 

Looking ahead to fall 2025, we are committed to making your transition back to campus as smooth as possible.  

  • All current students who wish to return in the fall are guaranteed a residence space. 
  • Room renewals were open until Feb. 21 to allow current students to reserve their bed space, with room change opportunities happening in March. 
  • Residences will be fully refreshed and ready for move-in day on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025. 

We appreciate your understanding as we take this next step to improve our residences. We will do everything we can to assist current students in finding alternate accommodations. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

We are always happy to welcome returning students back to Student Residences! Returning students get the benefit of priority room selection. Any returning student who has applied will be given the opportunity to select a room prior to other groups.

To reapply to residences:

  1. Submit your application in the student residence portal.
  2. Select your building and room. You may choose to return to the same room you had or select a new one during your assigned time.

 

Selecting your accommodation preferences

Building

There are a variety of accommodation options available to choose from.

Paton College provides a high level of support and guidance which is best suited for undergraduate students who are in their first year of studies or away from home for the first time. Most recently, there have been two buildings designated for graduate and mature students.

Macpherson College provides a higher level of independence and privacy than the residence halls and is recommended for independent, undergraduate students or those entering their second year and beyond.

Burton's Pond Apartments offer a high level of independence which is best suited for older, more independent undergraduate students in their second year or higher and is also recommended for graduate students and students with families.

Signal Hill Campus offers graduate accommodations located at one of Newfoundland and Labrador's most iconic destinations.

Room Type

Paton College has two types of rooms: a double room and a single room. A double room is shared by two students. A single room has one occupant during the year and is typically reserved for returning students. Paton College also has quiet floors/wings as well as accessible units. In most buildings, the quiet floor is the fourth floor.  There are also sections in some buildings designated as Living Learning communities each year.

Macpherson College has one type of suite: two private bedrooms with a shared washroom. Macpherson College also has quiet floors located on the fifth and sixth floors of both buildings as well as accessible units. There are also wings designated as Living Learning communities in both buildings each year.

Burton's Pond offers four single rooms in an apartment-style residence with shared common spaces (i.e. bathroom, kitchen, living room).

Signal Hill Campus offers rooms reserved for graduate students. These rooms are private with a private washroom and have shared kitchen spaces.

Roommate Requests

When you apply for residence, there will be a section to indicate any roommate preferences you have. If you do not indicate a roommate preference on your original application, but you wish to do so at a later time, please submit your request through email to housing@mun.ca. Please note that while we try our best to match up roommates, it is not always possible.

For a better chance at being matched up with your preferred roommate, please make sure that all roommates have also requested you. Only students who are offered and accept the same community will be reviewed if a roommate request is submitted.

If you do not have a roommate request, one will be assigned to you based on the questions you fill out on your application.

Burton's Pond Apartments now have gender-inclusive apartments which means that genders will be mixed within these apartments. If you wish to live in one of these apartments, please indicate it on your application or through email to housing@mun.ca.
