General admission requirements


Uganda Certificate of Education and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.

Required subject areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics*
  3. Laboratory Science* (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language*
  5. Elective

*Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact

General admission criteria

Grade requirement
  • Completion of the General Certificate of Education with a minimum grade of 4 (where 1 is the maximum) in the required subject areas and at least two Advanced levels with a minimum grade of C.
English language proficiency
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

Additional notes

Applied Advanced Level subjects are not an ideal preparation for our programs. General Paper, General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills, and Key Skills subjects are not acceptable.

If you have not yet completed "A" Levels

When you apply (early acceptance)
  • If A level results are not yet available, a provisional decision may be possible using the final Certificate of Education and Predicted Grades for the A levels or the Provisional Results Slip of the A levels.
  • Official English proficiency test result.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
When you complete your examinations (verified acceptance)

If you have completed "A" levels and not attended a post-secondary institution
