General admission requirements


Certificate of Secondary Education and Advanced Certificate of Education.

Required subject areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics*
  3. Laboratory Science* (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language*
  5. Elective

*Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.

General admission criteria

Grade requirement
  • Completion of the Certificate of Secondary Education with a minimum grade of C in the required subject areas and the Advanced Certificate of Education with at least two subjects with a minimum grade of C.
English language proficiency
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

Additional Notes

Applied Advanced Level subjects are not an ideal preparation for our programs. General Paper, General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills, and Key Skills subjects are not acceptable.

Completion of A level subject examinations with minimum scores may qualify accepted applicants for course-based transfer credit. Refer to the Office of the Registrar's transfer credit process for further details.

When you apply (early acceptance)
  • If A level results are not yet available, a provisional decision may be possible using the final Certificate of Secondary Education and Predicted Grades for the A levels or the Provisional Results Slip of the A levels.
  • Official English proficiency test result.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
When you complete your examinations (verified acceptance)
  • Certified copies of your final official Certificate of Secondary Education and Advanced Certificate of Education certificates sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
