Special July visit to Branscombe's Pond

Branscombe's Pond: Tuesday July31 at 10:00 a.m.

Howard Clase will lead a short botanical walk (90 minutes to 2 hours) around Branscombe's Pond (just on the Mount Pearl side of the border with St John's.) The path is level and wheelchair accessible, on board walks or a gravel surface.

Branscombe's Pond has the best selection of water and waterside plants in the St John's area. Howard has a list of nearly 60 species at present and this is probably less than half. It is, of course, impossible to see everything on one visit: Labrador Tea, Rhododendron groenlandicum, is just past peak flowering (picture attached) and the Fragrant Waterlily, Nymphaea odorata, – one of our most spectacular native plants – has barely shown its leaves yet.

If the weather is poor the walk will be rescheduled to Thursday August 2nd - More detailed directions to the meeting point will be provided closer to the event.

There is a limit of a dozen which is now half filled, If you would like to add your name to the list e-mail Howard at hclase@mun.ca
