Apr 3rd, 2025

On January 29, 2025, he was awarded the 75th Anniversary of Confederation Medal presented by Premier Furey in a ceremony at Confederation Building.

On March 11, 2025, he was awarded a King Charles III Coronation Medal by Hon. Joanne Thompson, MP St. John's East.

These are just two of many medals and awards Dr. Ed Williams has received, including a MUNPA Tribute Award in 2018, in recognition of his ongoing support and contributions to the community.

Dr. Ed Williams retired from Memorial University in 2004, after almost 40 years of service with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science. In 2016 he reached the milestone of having volunteered for 50 years as an usher during the university’s convocation ceremonies. Some of his other awards include: the Gold Medallion, the highest award of the Naval Association of Canada; the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal; the NL Community Sector Council Volunteer Award; the Senior of Distinction Award by our provincial government; the CURAC Appreciation Award; and, in 2023, he was appointed as an Honorary Life Member by the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee in recognition of his almost thirty years of voluntary service.

On behalf of the entire MUNPA membership, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Ed on the recognition of his generous and frequent giving to the community, represented by these two significant awards.
