As a CES event coordinator, Emily Lockyer has been a point person for dozens of engagement and wedding celebrations.

She’s seen it all – the joy, the stress, and all the points in between.  She says, “Every couple is different and every ceremony is special, but if you’re having trouble planning your wedding or don’t even know where to begin, this is for you.”

With love and the wisdom of experience, Emily shares five essential steps that will make it easy for couples to get from 'Yes I Will' to enjoying the evening after 'I Do'!

Agree on the Wedding Plan

 Work Your Wedding Budget

  • Ensure you have a mutually agreed upon budget that covers every cost possible.
  • Plan out exact wishes per item. Look at what you have to go towards it, how much you can save and how much you want to spend and add it up, this is a starting point in your budget planning!
  • Make sure your budget is a realistic one that you can afford.

Get Wedding Vendor Lists & Timeline organized!

Make the lists

  • Have multiple lists, one per vendor is best to ensure all areas are covered. Could be digital - for many couples shared google files work.  Could be paper - others enjoy a sectioned notebook that fits easily into a carry bag.  (Your wedding party, vendors, guests, etc. will thank you )

Make a detailed timeline

  • Map out your day in 20 minute slots and plan extra time in between to account for any small delays
  • Count down to The Big Day
  • Leading up to the big day – make a checklist of what needs to be done and who needs to do it
  • For the Day - create two big checklists:  ‘To Do’ and ‘To Bring’.
  • Plan for the unexpected!

Enlist a ‘Day Of Wedding’ Coordinator

  • Having a trusted, informed ‘Day Of’ coordinator allows you to be present and actually enjoy your day (!) without having to worry about anything.
  • Whether a trusted family or friend or a paid ‘day of’ coordinator, this needs to be a person you can rely on for the day of to deal with the small tasks that need to be done, or the major issues that arise during the day. They will need to understand your vision and have all the information and materials that they need to make it all happen.  The team at Conference and Event Services can be your "Day Of" coordinator. Email meet@mun.ca for more info.
