Title of Project:
Sustainable social aquaculture and Occupational health and safety - Identifying and Reducing AOHS Hazards: Developing a Dialogue Around Prevention
Postdoctoral Research Project Description
This research is related to aquaculture occupational health and safety as part of Module M, Social Licence and Planning in Coastal Communities, within the Ocean Frontier Institute.
This project will help us to better anticipate and address health and safety hazards in aquaculture-related work, arising from activities occurring on the water and along the coast, as well as interactions between aquaculture and other marine uses. Of particular interest is the impact of marine weather (winds, waves, temperature) on worker safety, as well as the role of environmental forecasts and monitoring in mitigating weather concerns. The main objective of the work is to identify i) which weather conditions are of primary concern to aquaculture workers, and ii) actions workers take to mitigate weather’s OHS impacts.
