Professional Registration
September 2016
The spreadsheets below are provided to help students plan their programs in Earth Sciences so that they fulfill the academic requirements for registration with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) and the Canada wide body, Geoscientists Canada.
There are three pathways for professional registration: Geology, Environmental Geosciences and Geophysics. The pathways are outlined in separate sheets of the spreadsheet document.
As of September 2016, the requirements for PEGNL will be the same as for Geoscientists Canada. This will allow graduates who follow the guidelines to be professionally registered in any province or territory in Canada at any time after graduation.
Before September 2016, PEGNL requirements are more flexible than Geoscientists Canada requirements. Students graduating before this date, who meet PEGNL requirements but not Geoscientists Canada requirements, are advised to register with PEGNL as soon as possible after graduation. You can then transfer your registration to any other province or territory at any time. If you fail to do this, the provincial professional body may require you to take extra courses before you can be registered.
Note that there are other work experience requirements for professional registration apart from the academic requirements.
