Field Trip August 2011
On August 31, 7 brave undergraduates followed faculty members Tao Cheng and Penny Morrill into a Moon-like landscape to study the environmental effects of acid mine drainage. They found an extreme environment that was teaming with life, from bacteria to bears. The purpose of the study was to design a sampling plan to evaluate the environmental impacts and the remediation required to clean up the contaminated site. Fun was had by all.
