Organization Description: The Fluvarium is a public environmental education centre focusing on freshwater and riparian ecology. We operate a nature museum that includes live exhibits and nine viewing windows onto Nagle's Hill Brook. Our Education department offers programs to schools, youth groups, seniors groups, and parents & tots as well as provide community education opportunities through public visitation and outreach.
Our catering department operates as a social enterprise designed to support our education mandate.
Volunteer Activities/Duties: Volunteer opportunities are based on your availability and our needs at that time. Opportunities could include:
- Office Tasks
- Special Events
- Intrepretation/Tour Guide
- Public Programs
- Animal Care
- Maintenance
- Character Dress-Up
- Public Relations and more!
Commitment: as little or as often as the volunteer would like.
Orientation and Training: An orientation meeting is about 1 hour and includes a building tour and detailed discussion about roles and responsibilities. The next 1-2 shifts may be spent reading up on our exhibits or training for the computer programs required.
Other Requirements: References, Criminal Reference Check, Interview.
We encourage interpretation volunteers to take on a project to help us grow and spread our message. This project would be secondary to interpretation duties and can be decided on after the volunteers have finished training and has had a few shifts under their belt.
