How to Get Involved

We organize and educate migrants and supporters, and empower migrants to speak up and address their needs. We are a member run movement, and take our direction from migrant members while taking advise from supporters where needed. Our memberships are free and open to migrants, supporters, and groups/organizations that share our values and wish to join us in this call. The Migrant Action Centre also joins organizations across the country in calling for an end to exploitation and precarity that migrants face, and full and permanent immigration status for all, irrespective of status or the lack thereof. At the Migrant Action Centre, we also maintain a list of equitable resources that are open and accessible to ALL migrants – irrespective of status or the lack thereof. We can help connect you with resources. Additionally, we want migrants to know you’re not alone! We are all in this together, and we stand in solidarity with each other. Volunteer Activities/Duties: 

• Table for us and collect memberships,
• Help us make events happen,
• Fundraise (we really need this one),
• Organize migrants,
• Organize workplaces,
• Postering and flyering,
• Blog writing,
• Other forms of writing (newsletters, press releases, letters to the government, petitions, etc),
• Graphic design,
• Web design,
• Social media,
• Strategizing,
• Helping with membership engagement,
• Helping build connections,
• General task support,
• Other – roles can be created to accommodate volunteer's interests

Commitment: We do not have a minimum requirement and just ask volunteers to get in touch at least once a month (which might just be sending a text) so we know they're okay if we haven't heard from them. We do, however, have an upper limit, i.e., volunteers have to agree to not dedicate more than 20 hours a week in unpaid labour to the Migrant Action Centre.
