General admission requirements
Credential
Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education O Levels and Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education A Levels.
Required subject areas
- English
- Mathematics1
- Laboratory Science1,2 (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
- Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language1
- Elective
1Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.
2Combined Science is not acceptable to meet the laboratory science requirement.
General admission criteria
Grade requirement
- Completion of the Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education with a minimum grade of C in the required subject areas at the O level and at least three Advanced (“A”) Level subjects with a minimum grade of C.
English language proficiency
- Proof of English language proficiency is required through a standardized test.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
- Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.
Additional notes
Completion of Advanced Level subject examinations with minimum scores may qualify accepted applicants for course-based transfer credit.
Applied Advanced Level subjects are not an ideal preparation for our programs. General Paper, General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills, and Key Skills subjects are not acceptable.

If you have not yet completed A Levels
When you apply (early acceptance)
- Copy of the final O Level certificate, including reference number for online verification through the Department of Examinations, and predicted grades or provisional results slip for A Levels. These can be sent to admiss.docs@mun.ca.
- Official English proficiency test result.
- Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
When you complete your examinations (verified acceptance)
- Copy of the final A Level certificate, including reference number for online verification through the Department of Examinations, sent to admiss.docs@mun.ca. We will also accept certificates sent directly from an official email address listed on the website of the issuing authority, or certified copies sent via post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
If you have completed A levels and not attended a post-secondary institution
- Copies of the final O and A Level certificates, including reference numbers for online verification through the Department of Examinations, sent to admiss.docs@mun.ca. We will also accept certificates sent directly from an official email address listed on the website of the issuing authority, or certified copies sent via post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
- Official English proficiency test result.
- Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
If you have attended a post-secondary institution
- You are required to apply as a transfer student. In addition to the information provided above, please refer to our university or college transfer applicant requirements.
