General admission requirements

Scottish Qualifications Certificate

Required subject areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics1
  3. Laboratory Science1,2 (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language1
  5. Elective

1Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.

2Combined Science is not acceptable to meet the laboratory science requirement.

General admission criteria

Grade requirement
  • A minimum of National 5 courses in the required subject areas and at least 2 Highers, with grades of C or better in each. 
English language proficiency
  • Additional proof of English proficiency beyond completion of the Scottish Certificate of Education is not required. Refer to our English language requirements for further details.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

  • Official Scottish Qualifications Certificate, sent to admiss.docs@mun.ca directly from an official email address listed on the website of the issuing education authority. Alternatively, the official results may be sent from the issuing education authority by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.

If you have completed high school and not attended a post-secondary institution

  • Official Scottish Qualifications Certificate, sent to admiss.docs@mun.ca directly from an official email address listed on the website of the issuing education authority. Alternatively, the official results may be sent from the issuing education authority by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
