General admission requirements
Credential
National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3
Required subject areas
- English
- Mathematics*
- Laboratory Science* (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
- Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language*
- Elective
*Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.
General admission criteria
Grade requirement
- NCEA Level 3 with course endorsements in the required subject areas at Level 2 or 3.
English language proficiency
- Further proof of English language proficiency is normally not required. Refer to our English language requirements for further details.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
- Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

If you are currently in high school
When you apply (early acceptance)
- Current interim transcript, showing current course registrations, uploaded to the admissions portal or sent by email.
- Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See general admission criteria section above.
- Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
When you complete your examinations (verified acceptance)
- Official New Zealand Record of Achievement sent directly from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority to the Office of the Registrar via email, post or courier.
If you have completed high school and not attended a post-secondary institution
- Official New Zealand Record of Achievement sent directly from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority to the Office of the Registrar via email, post or courier.
- Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See general admission criteria section above.
- Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
If you have attended a post-secondary institution
- You are required to apply as a transfer student. In addition to the information provided above, please refer to our university or college transfer applicant requirements.
