General admission requirements
Credential
Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) and at least one year of study at a recognized Junior College, College or University.
Exceptional candidates may be considered for general admission on the basis of the BGCSE.
Required subject areas
- English
- Mathematics*
- Laboratory Science* (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
- Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language*
- Elective
*Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.
General admission criteria
Grade requirement
- Exceptional BGCSE students with a minimum grade of A in the required subject areas may be considered for general admission.
- Students who complete at least one year of study at a recognized Junior College, College or University must be in clear academic standing (equivalent to a minimum of 2.0 on a 4.0-point GPA scale).
English language proficiency
- Proof of English language proficiency beyond completion of the BGCSE examinations is normally not required. Refer to our English language requirements for further details.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
- Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

If you are currently in high school
When you apply (early acceptance)
- Current interim transcript, uploaded to the admissions portal or sent by email.
- Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See general admission criteria section above.
- Supplementary information for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
When you complete your examinations (verified acceptance)
- Official BGCSE Final Certificate or Statement of Results Certificate sent directly from the Ministry of Education via email, post or courier.
If you have completed BGCSE
- Official BGCSE Final Certificate or Statement of Results Certificate sent directly from the Ministry of Education via email, post or courier.
- Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See general admission criteria section above.
- Supplementary information for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
If you have attended a post-secondary institution
- You are required to apply as a transfer student. In addition to the information provided above, please refer to our university or college transfer applicant requirements.
