Burton's Pond Recycling
About the program
Student residences at Burton’s Pond apartments unlike other units on campus have individual kitchens and are very similar to other residential units in the city. The recycling program at Burton’s Pond thus covers the same range of material that the City of St. John’s collects at the curb – mixed containers and paper.
New residents are provided with blue bins and a welcome kit that includes complementary blue bags, sorting guide and instructions to participate in the program. Mixed containers and paper recyclables bagged in separate blue bags can be dropped off at the dedicated recycling dumpster placed adjacent to Cartier building.
Clean it
- Rinse containers thoroughly to remove food and liquids, empty boxes and make sure other paper products are clean.
- Remove plastic wrap/film/tape/straws from all items
Sort it
- Sort your recyclables into PAPER products and MIXED CONTAINERS. Place these in separate blue bins as per sorting guide.
- For items not listed on the sorting guide, use the search function at Curb-It Recycling or download the smart phone application available there.
Bag it
- Place MIXED CONTAINERS in one blue bag and PAPER products in another, and tie them off when you are ready to take them out of your apartment.
- Large Boxes can be flattened before bagging them.
Drop it
- Dedicated recycling dumpster is provided near Cartier building. You can drop your blue bags anytime though the slot on the side of dumpster.
- Make sure you put ONLY RECYCLING in this dumpster and in BLUE BAGS ONLY
All materials mentioned in the sorting guide are accepted in the recycling program.
