Dr. John (Seán) Brosnan
The Department of Biochemistry will host a celebration of the life and academic career of Dr. Seán Brosnan, who passed on December 4, 2024, leaving his wife of 54 years, Margaret (née Loughney), his three children, Éamonn, Eileen (Daniela), Tomás (Jennifer), his six grandchildren, Séamus, Sophie, Tiernan, Abigail, Morgan, and Marcelo, his siblings, Noreen (Dan), James (Angela), Mary (Coley), Lucy (Gerry), and Eleanor (Tadgh), many cherished nephews and nieces, and his brother-in-law, Robert Loughney.
Dr. Brosnan retired in 2018, after 46 years with the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science. Widely respected by students and faculty alike, Dr. Brosnan cemented his legacy as a researcher and educator. The Brosnan Lecture in Biochemistry is proudly named for him, as the creator of the Endowment Fund that continues to help bring experts in the field of Biochemistry to Memorial University as guest lecturers. He has and continues to inspire generations of students with this generous gift and years of service at Memorial.
The celebration of Dr. Brosnan’s life and academic career will take place May 2, 2:30 p.m. in the Core Science Facility Whale Atrium, and CSF-1302, and will include remarks from family, colleagues, and friends, music, and light refreshments. The celebration will transition to The Breezeway from 4:30-7:30 p.m.. All are welcome to attend.
